Blog Stage Seven: The Next Mega Industry in the U.S.

More frequently, the idea of marijuana impacting the United States in a positive manner isn't accepted. Whether it's American citizen's attitudes about recreational, or medical use of marijuana, you rarely hear anything positive associated with the subject. However you feel about the use of marijuana, there's no denying the positive effects that the industry has on job creation in our nation. According to an article by business insider, " A new report from New Frontier Data, a business intelligence firm focused on cannabis, projects legal weed market will create more than a quarter of a million jobs by 2020."

Legal marijuana businesses employed an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 workers in January 2017. California and Colorado, one of the first two states to legalize marijuana have created over 15,000 jobs alone, each. The marijuana industry is expected to bring in $24.5 billion in 2025, based only on the states that have legalized marijuana by 2017. The current unemployment rate in the United States is 5%. Doesn't that make you wonder what the unemployment rate would be if marijuana was legal federally, in every fifty states? Regardless of how much you may or may not agree with marijuana use. The positivity it brings to many citizens is undeniable, whether it be medical use to help with killing cancer cells, or PTSD, or created jobs for our nation.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more, the amount of jobs and tax revenue from the legalization could help out our country tremendously. The proof is already shown with the revenue obtained in the few legal states. 15,000 jobs in each state would help with the high unemployment rate in many of our states. The medical benefits alone would make a huge difference in our country. Another problem legalization of marijuana can help is the opioide crisis in America. Studies have shown that the legalization in the sates that allow marijuana use have lowered the amount of alcohol bought which kills people everyday. Even if you don't think marijuana should be legalized it no doubt has positives.
